The Allowance Agreement
Fill it in together, both sign it, and put it somewhere visible. Print with your browser (Cmd/Ctrl + P). The page drops the site furniture and prints black on white.
Why an agreement rather than a chart: the arguments in a family are almost never about the arithmetic, they are about what was agreed. The app keeps the ledger; this keeps the deal. Setting one up for the first time is covered in how to start paying allowance.
Who
This is the allowance agreement between (child) and (parent), starting .
The allowance
Amount: every (day of the week).
It arrives on that day whether or not it is asked for, and it is not cancelled as a punishment.
How it splits
| Jar | Share | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Spend | ||
| Save | ||
| Give |
The three shares add up to 100.
Interest
The parent pays % interest on the Save jar, every , on whatever is in it at the time.
This is not a bank rate. It is paid by the parent so that saving is visible, and it can be changed with weeks' notice. Work out what a rate will actually cost by the end of a year in the kids savings calculator before writing one here.
What the allowance covers
The child pays for these, out of their own money:
The parent still pays for these:
Chores
These are done because we live here. They are not paid, and the allowance does not depend on them:
These are extra, optional, and paid when done:

The first review
We will look at this again on , about eight weeks from the start, and change whatever is not working. Nobody has to keep an amount that turned out to be wrong.
